Frequently asked questions
Do you take bookings?
We only take bookings for Afternoon Tea and special events which you can book here. For breakfast and lunch it’s just a walk-in basis.
Can I book a table for a mix of Afternoon Tea and Lunch?
We’re afraid not, the entire table must have afternoon tea for a booking. This is due to the nature of unlimited tea and coffee on the afternoon teas, and the fact that lunch and afternoon tea comes from two separate kitchens. We are able to cater for most dietary requirements/allergies on our afternoon tea including vegan and gluten free!
Are you dog friendly?
Whilst we don’t allow dogs inside (except guide dogs), all of our outdoor areas are dog friendly.
Where are you located?
We have two locations:
Our High Street Tea Room: We are the big pink building on the High Street, opposite WHSmiths and next to the Thomas Plume Library. Our entrance is down Bright’s Path.
Our Kiosk at Maldon’s Promenade Park: Located just opposite the amphitheatre overlooking the lake.
What ages do you welcome?
Whilst we do welcome guests of all ages, our tea room is best suited for those ages 12 and up.
Can you accommodate prams & babies?
We can provide high chairs at the table but we do have limited space for prams. We can’t guarantee space around a table for prams – so we may ask you to leave it in the hallway or even outside if there is no more room. If your baby is new born and can not sit in a high chair we would recommended booking for Afternoon Tea (we don’t take bookings for breakfast or lunch) to ensure space around the table for the pram. To book for afternoon tea please call us on 01621888863.
Can I hire out a private room?
Yes, but only for Afternoon Tea. We can fit up to 22 people in one of our upstairs rooms and up to 12 in one of our downstairs rooms. The minimum for a room hire is 12 people and there is no room hire charge, only the cost of the Afternoon Tea. We are typically only able to accommodate larger group bookings from 3pm and you’d only be able to access the room from your booking time as we do have sittings prior to your arrival. We also take a deposit at the time of booking to secure the room. Please call us on 01621888863 to discuss your options.
Can I bring decorations?
Whist we do allow most decorations, there’s a few important things to note:
- We don’t allow decorations that fix to the wall or ceiling as to not damage paintwork in our old listed building.
- Please be considerate of confetti – this can significantly slow down our team when trying to clear up the table, especially if there is a sitting after yours.
- You’ll only have access to your table or room from your booking time, so you wont be able to decorate before to this.
Do you have an allergy menu?
Yes, you can download our full lunch menu here and full breakfast menu here. Please note that due to the current uncertainty of supplies due to BREXIT, covid and other 3rd party issues, we may change suppliers and therefor this allergy information may not be correct. Always inform your server of any allergies to ensure the kitchen can double check this for you.
Are you wheelchair friendly?
Yes, just! As you can see from the pictures below, our listed building can be a little tight and steep for some wheelchair users, but we do successfully host guests in wheelchairs quite often. There is a doorbell outside our front door, just press the button and someone will be out to assist you. The measurement at narrowest width is 73cm.
The wheelchair accessible toilet is not in our main building, we use the Bright’s Path Site’s disabled toilet located at the end of the path way.
