A warm welcome from Mrs Salisbury’s
Founded in 2014, Mrs Salisbury’s epitomises the Great British tea room. We have three locations in Maldon and the surrounding areas, each of them with it’s own unique character and charm. Whether dining inside on a cosy winters day or outside in a sun trap, we offer a service like no other.
A family affair
Opened by Mrs Salisbury and her family in 2014, we’re proud to be a family run independent business based in Essex. With over fifty years experience in the industry, we’ve refined our service into our tea rooms and it’s where we want to expand and grow. We specialise in breakfast, lunch & afternoon tea, not forgetting our unmissable bistro evenings and events!
Our history
Established 2014
In March 2014, Mrs Salisbury opened the doors of her tea room in Bright’s Path for the first time. We were located in Rose Cottage, a small and historic building that held just 28 guests.
March 2018, introducing ‘The Drawing Room’
Over the years, our tea room following began to grow. So we opened our new dining room called ‘The Drawing Room’ as a private dining room for breakfast meetings, lunch groups and afternoon tea parties. The room also served as overflow seating for the queues of guests over lunchtime.
Winter 2018, the winter igloo
Christmas is our favourite time of the year. Bright’s Path was transformed into an award winning winter wonderland.
We took inspiration from the big city as we assembled our Winter Igloo in the pathway. Guests wrapped up warm and enjoyed bottomless brunch & our festive afternoon tea in our cosy outdoor igloo! This would be the first of many Christmas events.
Spring 2020, a flying start
We were off to a flying start in 2020 until we closed our doors for the Coronavirus pandemic. So not ones to sit around, we started an afternoon tea delivery service on weekends, delivering sweet treats all around Maldon!
Summer 2020, going mobile!
The lockdown made us think on our feet, think out of the box (and tea room). We launch ‘Mrs Salisbury’s in the park’ in Maldon’s renowned Promenade Park. Serving delicious coffees, treats & afternoon tea picnic baskets.
Our Nationwide afternoon tea hamper service goes live. The whole of the UK can enjoy our delectable Afternoon Tea from their homes, delivered in temperature-controlled packaging. The perfect gift!
December 2020, we moved!
After a productive lockdown we moved our entire tea room to our new bigger building next door! (still located in Bright’s Path) With 7 new rooms and a heated outdoor seating in our new secret courtyard. This is where our Maldon location is today and is our flagship site.
March 2022, we became a permanent fixture in the park.
With all the success and new faces we made with our coffee van in the park, we became a permanent fixture. We waved goodbye to the trusty van and opened up our brand new kiosk overlooking the river. This allowed us to broaden our menu and serve our wonderful guests everyday, rain or shine.
February 2023, village life in Wickham Bishops.
We opened up our second dine-in location in the charming village of Wickham Bishops. In true Mrs S fashion, we took over The Historic Mitre Pub and redecorated, refurnished and reimagined it into a bustling tea room.
